That say it’s not what you know, but who you know.  This couldn’t be truer in Brazil.  It’s common to hear name dropping as people flash their assets.  Here are the 5 names that will come up time and time again in conversations regarding startups in Brazil.
1) Eric Acher.  Partner at Monashees, one of the top venture capital funds investing in consumer internet companies in Brazil.
2) Simon Olsen.  Now working at Google as Business Development, Simon is a reference in internet in Brazil.  As well as being a highly experienced venture capitalist and former partner of DFJ and Fir Capital, Simon is renowned in the startup community in Brazil.
3) Bedy Yang.  Director of Brazil Innovators and 500 startups Brazil and highly connected in the startup community as organizer BRNewTech, the biggest startup meetup in Brazil.
4) Julio Vasconcellos.  Co-founder of Peixe Urbano, the biggest Brazilian internet success of recently years.  Julio, along with the other co-founders of Peixe Urbano, has strong connection to the Valley and local VCs.
5) Luciano Huck.  TV presenter and angel investor in various internet startups in Brazil (including Peixe Urbano).  With over 1.2M twitter followers he certainly has some influence.
